AAT ICAS 2220 ✧ IDC methods of dial unit decimalization
IDC methods of dial unit decimalization
this document describes AAT ICAS specifications for IDC methods of dial unit decimalization. methods of decimalization that are not coherent to the main unit are strongly discouraged.
developers and users should consider that expressions of metric time may be differently represented among various dials. however the first two places of the second decitriad (txxx ttXXx) are specified for use as subminor clock units for all IDC dials. for most practical purposes dial units are specified for decimalization with regard to the main unit. the decitriad identifier 't' always specifies decimalization with regard to the main unit. an alternative lowercase decimalization specifier may however be considered for use between the major, minor, or subminor clock-unit places:
- 'm' specifies that the minor clock unit places are decimalized with regard to the main unit, and further specifies that the minor (or subminor) clock units are coherent to the main unit (however numbering may be different subject to unit phasing). the 2nd and so forth decitriads may in these cases also be coherent subject to unit phasing.
- 'd' specifies that the subsequent minor (or subminor) clock unit places are however decimalized with regard to the major (or minor) clock unit, and in certain such cases the minor (or subminor) clock units are not coherent to decitriad expression.
the distinction between methods of decimalization is non-trivial for the dialXX, dialXL, and dialL dial units, and users should consider conformance with ICAS usage.
